After Christmas, the "Día de los Santos Inocentes" (Literally: Day of the Innocent Saints), on the 28th of December, is a perfect opportunity to play a prank on your family or friends so they never will forget that day!
La celebración del día de los Inocentes es una tradición que tiene los orígenes en la leyenda de la matanza de los niños menores de dos años, nacidos en Belén, que ordenó el rey Herodes con el objetivo de deshacerse del Niño Jesús de Nazaret. Los niños, conocidos en la Iglesia como los Santos Inocentes, son declarados los primeros mártires.
Celebrate this "Día de los Inocentes" is a tradition that has its origin in the Legend of the Massacre of the Innocents, a mass infanticide by the King of Judea, Herod the Great: he ordered the execution of all young male children in the village of Bethlehem, so to avoid the loss of his throne to a newborn King of the Jews, the child Jesus. The infants, known in the Church as the Holy Innocents, have been claimed as the first Christian martyrs.
Hoy en día, la fiesta tiene un sentido pagano, en el que las personas se hacen bromas y engaños. Una de las bromas más conocidas son las mazas, que la mayoría de las veces son muñecos de papel que se enganchan en la espalda de alguien en señal de burla. Today this festivity has a heathen meaning, it's a day where all people play a prank. También tienes que tener en cuenta que hay gente a la que puedes asustar, y gente a la que no. Esta persona por ejemplo tiene unos reflejos tan buenos que ante un susto, lo primero que hace, es dar una buena hostia.
