La semana pasada encontré a una persona fabulosa en la piscina romana. Es un seguidor activo de nosotros en Facebook, un huésped muy repetidor, y un gran conversador: les presento al Sr. David Inglis. Tomamos un café en el bar de la piscina romana, hablamos durante mucho tiempo y era un buena experiencia ya que David era la primera "víctima" para mis entrevistas, pero seguirán muchas más! Last week I met a great person at the roman pool. He's an active follower of our Facebook, a repeat guest, and a good conversationalist: I present you Mr. David Inglis. We had a coffee at the bar of the roman pool, were chatting for a long time and it was a great experience as David was the first "victim" for my interviews, but a lot more will follow! David es escocés, pero vive en Inglaterra. Su madre era una madre de acogida, hasta apareció en la tele por ello, porque muchos de sus hijos adoptivos llegaron a ser médico, etc. David viene de una familia de campesions pero el es "la oveja negra" ya que en la "vida real" David no es campesino, lleva trajes.. Abre tiendas de Cash & Carry en todo Inglaterra. Este mes, el 31 de marzo, jubila, y va a tener más tiempo para trabajar en su jardín, para la pesca a mosca y por supuesto, para visitar el Mare Nostrum Resort!

David is Scottish, but lives in England. His mother was a foster mom, she came on television for it, because lots of her foster children became doctors, etc. David comes of a family of farmers but he's the "black sheep" as in "real life" David isn't a farmer at all, he wears suits... He opens new Cash & Carry sores over around England. He retires this month, on the 31st of March, he will have more time then to garden, to go fly fishing and of course, to come to the Mare Nostrum Resort!

David viene aquí aproximadamente 6 veces al año, y durante los últimos 13 años... Vio las obras de construcción del Cleopatra Palace: donde antes estaban las canchas de tenis, ahora hay un hotel magnífico! Cree que las personas hacen el hotel, no las instalaciones. Vuelven tantas veces por la gente, ya hicieron tantos amigos aquí, como Lorena del bar, Yolanda y Deli de recepción, Mirko y Ricardo (botones), y hasta añadió algunos de ellos como amigos en su Facebook. Y en cuanto a Yolanda y Lorena, las llama sus novias españolas (con el consenso de su esposa por supuesto). También tiene un montón de amigos entre los huéspedes, ya que le encanta entretener a la gente!

David comes here about 6 times a year, and that for the last 13 years.... He saw the building works of the Cleopatra Palace: where there were tennis courts before, stands now a great hotel! In his opinion the Cleopatra Palace is worth 5 stars. In his opinion people make the hotel, not the facilities. They return that many times because of the people, they have so many friends here like Lorena of the bar, Yolanda and Deli of reception, Mirko and Ricardo (porters), some of them he added even as friends on his Facebook. And what Yolanda and Lorena concerns, he even calls them his Spanish girlfriends (his wife knows). Of course he made a lot of friends between the guests as well, as he enjoys entertaining other people!

Tiene una auténtica mentalidad de vacaciones, cuando llueve (raras veces), no le importa nada, porque sigue haciendo calor. Se relaja, nada y compra joyería para su mujer! Se siente cómodo aquí, en comparación con otros hoteles. Sabe adonde ir, sabe que es seguro ir de compras aquí, encuentra a sus amigos, le gusta pasar algunas noches en el piano bar del Cleopatra Palace y hablar con el personal. Y para copiar sus palabras: toma una caña de entusiasmo!

He has a real holiday mentality, when it rains (rarely), then he doens't care, because it's still warm. He relaxes, swims and buys his wife jewelry! He feels very comfortable here, in comparaison to other hotels he visited before. He knows where to go to, he knows it's safe to shop, he meets friends, he likes spending some nights at the piano bar in the Cleopatra Palace, to chat with the staff. And copying his words: he takes a pint of enthousiasm!

En cuanto a ir de compras, un día que estaba en la piscina, su mujer fue de compras, por lo menos eso lo creía él... Después de una hora descubrió que no... Se paró un ascensor con ella dentro... A Susy, su esposa, toda la situación la pareció muy graciosa pero Inma, de relaciones públicas, estaba muy preocupada y finalmente Pedro (botones) salvó a Susy!

Concerning that shopping, once he was at the pool, his wife went shopping, or so he thought... After one hour he found out that she wasn't... A lift broke down, and she got stuck in it... Susy, his wife, found it very funny but Inma, from guest relations was very worried and finally Pedro (porter) "saved" his wife!

David reserva directamente con nosotros, opina que el precio es correcto, y que debemos mantener la calidad del nivel que tenemos ahora mismo. Pero piensa que existen personas a las que puedes satisfacer y que hay otras a las que no! Ya reservaron su estancia para Navidad, y las otras visitas dependen del tiempo en Inglaterra.

David books directly with us, he feels the price is fair, and that we should maintain the quality of standard like it's right now. But he does think that some can be pleased, others can't! They did in fact already book there next Christmas visit, and the other escapes depend on the weather at home.

Sólo quiero terminar este resumen de la larga pero muy entretenida conversación utilizando las palabras de David: "Debes experimentarlo, es fantástico! Para creerlo, hay que venir aquí y disfrutar!"

And I just want to end this resumee of a long but really nice talk with David's words: "You have to experience it, it's fantastic! To believe it, you have to come and enjoy!"

LA CENA DE GALA: MI PROPIA EXPERIENCIA - THE GALA DINNER: MY OWN EXPERIENCE

Tantas ganas de ir a la cena de gala, a trabajar un poco, pero sobre todo a disfrutar de la noche! Todo bien preparado, la videocámara, la fotocámara, ... Y ya llegando tarde para el cóctel... En la recepción del Cleopatra Palace los recepcionistas y botones estaban como siempre bien vestidos, adaptados al ambiente de la cena de gala...

I really looked forward to the gala dinner, to work a bit but above all to enjoy the evening! I was well prepared, took the video camera and the photo camera with me... And we arrived late for the cocktail (my boyfriend went with me)... In the reception of the Cleopatra Palace they were well dressed like always, in gala dinner style...

Al entrar en el salón de Los Espejos, todas las mesas estaban llenas. Nos sentamos (que fui acompañada de mi novio) con dos parejas súper simpáticas, ambas con niños pequeños: una pareja de León, Alexandra y "Cuqui" y la otra pareja de Menorca, Laura y Ruben; en muy buena compañía y viendo que también en todas las otras mesas la gente estaba muy a gusto.
When we entered the "Salon de Los Espejos", almost all seats were taken. We got a seat at a table with two other, very nice couples, both with children: one couple came from the mainland, from a town called León, Alexandra and "Cuqui" and the other couple from the Balearic Island Menorca, Laura and Ruben; so very good company and we saw that the people on the other tables were having a great time as well.

Como todos queremos conocer un poco esta nueva cena de gala, también estaban la directora de nuestro Spa, Susana y Toñi, la directora del Spa de otro hotel de la compañía, el Don Carlos de Marbella.

As we all want to know this new gala dinner a little bit better, that night, Susana, the manager of our Spa and Toñi, the manager of the spa of another hotel of our company, the Don Carlos in Marbella, were having dinner there as well.

La noche empezaba con un video en una pantalla grande para presentar a los diferentes departamentos del hotel. Guay, porque ahí se veían todas las caras conocidas de los empleados del hotel, que los huéspedes repetidores también reconocían de sus estancias aquí.

he night started with a video on a big screen to present all the departments of the hotel. Cool, because you could see all familiar faces of the hotel staff, and our repeat guests will defenitely have recognised some of those employees.

Todos los anfitriones de la cena (directivos, recepcionistas, relaciones públicas, animación -el conocido Borja como presentador!-, Infocenter,...) estaban ahí delante de todos, con sus maravillosos vestidos de gala, sonrientes, animando la noche. Tanta preparación por parte mía y al momento de sacar la videocámara nos dimos cuenta de que faltaba la tarjeta de memoria... ¡Adiós imágenes de video! Por suerte que en ese momento tenía a mi novio a quien echar la culpa, jeje, ya sabes cómo somos las mujeres...

All hosts (directors, receptionists, public relations, entertainers -with the well-known Borja as presentator!-, Infocenter,...) stood there in front of us, dressed in their gorgeous gala costumes, all smiling and entertaining us. All that preparation and when I finally took my videocamera I noticed that I forgot the memory card... Good bye video images! I was lucky that at that moment I had my boyfriend who I could put the blame on, haha, you know us women...

En fin, empezamos a atacar el buffet, la comida estaba deliciosa! Comí "percebes" (son riquísimos!) por primera vez en mi vida ya que ni siquiera sabía de su existencia (como soy belga de nacimiento y estos moluscos son gallegos). Había Sushi, pescado, mariscos, demasiado para elegir! Ya todos con el estómago bien lleno, listos para la próxima sorpresa... Mientras que nos servían un vaso de cava, los anfitriones se reunieron otra vez en el esenario y sacaron del público a Alexandra (de mi mesa) y a otra señora ya que este día ambas celebraban su cumpleaños. Trajeron una tarta gigante (con bengalas), que repartieron entre todos los huéspedes (aparte del delicioso postre del buffet...).

Well, we started to attack the buffet, the food was really delicious! I ate goose barnacles (so good tasting!) for the first time in my life as I didn't even know they exist (as I was born in Belgium and those molluscs are galician). There was Sushi, fish, shellfish, too much to choose from! Everybody with a full stomach, ready for the next surprise... While we were served a glass of sparkling wine, the hosts gathered again on stage and they invited Alexandra (from my table) and another lady to come on stage, as they both celebrated their birthday that day. There was a big cake for that occasion (with sparklers), that was shared out between all guests (apart from the delicious dessert of the buffet...).

Después de otras noticias sorprendentes, y otra tartita más para Alexandra en nuestra mesa, empezaron a cantar. ¡No me lo podía creer! ¡Pero que talento tenemos en nuestro hotel! Cantaron Borja, Andy (Chef Ejecutivo) y Alejandro (le conocen sin duda, el director de alojamiento, que aparece un montón de veces en las fotos en Facebook). Me dijeron que normalmente también canta el director del hotel. Y como mañana voy a ir a grabar, CON tarjeta de memoria, ya les contaré.

After some other surprising news, and another small cake for Alexander on our table, they started singing. I couldn't believe my eyes! What a talent we have in our hotel! Borja, Andy (Executive Chef) and Alejandro (you defenitely know him, the room division manager, who appears a lot on the pictures on Facebook). They told me that normally the general manager of the hotel sings as well. And as I am going to record tomorrow- I promise I will not forget the memory card- I keep you informed.

Para quemar un poco las calorías de los postres, nos sacaron a bailar! Los anfitriones recibieron clases de baile de salón para prepaparse para esta cena, y lo hicieron muy pero que muy bien!! ¡También entre los huéspedes había unos grandes bailarines! Aproveché un momento de confusión para escaparme y sentarme otra vez... Pero sí que mucha gente bailaba y disfrutaba o hablaba con los anfitriones que también iban de mesa en mesa para saludar y conversar.

To burn some calories of the desserts, the hosts invited us to dance! They had lessons in ball room dancing for this gala dinner, and they really danced VERY well! Between the guests there were some great dancers as well! I took advantage of a small moment of confusion to escape and to sit again... But a lot of people were dancing and enjoying themselves or they were talking with the hosts who came to the tables to say hello to all guests.

En fin, creo que puedo decir en nombre de todos que fue una noche estupenda. A repetir!

I believe that I'm allowed to say in name of all those present, that it was a fantastic night.

LA FÁBRICA DE EXPERIENCIAS - THE EXPERIENCE PRODUCING FACTORY

Quiero presentarles a las chicas del Infocenter, de la "fábrica de experiencias"... En ella trabajan Celeste, Svea, Joanna e Irina, un equipo jóven que representa varios idiomas: español, ruso, alemán y polaco, y por supuesto atienden también a los huéspedes en inglés, francés e italiano. Entonces no tienen problemas de comunicación con los huéspedes... I want to present you the girls of our Infocenter, the "experience producing factory"... where Celeste, Svea, Joanna and Irina are working. They form a great, young team that represents several languages: Spanish,Russian, German and Polish and of course they attend the guests as well in fluent English, French and Italian. You see, communication with the guests is not a problem for them...

El infocenter está en frente de la recepción del Mediterranean Palace. Ahí puedes encontrar a las chicas de lunes a domingo, de 9h00 a 13h00 y de 17h00 a 20h00. You can find the Infocenter in front of the reception of the Mediterranean Palace, from Monday till Sunday, from 9h00 till 13h00 and from 17h00 till 20h00. Ya las ves de lejos, todas con una gran sonrisa! Son amables, simpáticas, alegres, serviciales, atentas y muy conversadoras... Estoy segura que tú también sales de ahí con una gran son sonrisa! You will see them from far away, as they have all a big smile! They are nice, helpful, attentive, funny, and very chatty... I'm sure you will their desk with a big smile as well!

Si no sabes qué hacer, no quieres pasar tus vacaciones en Tenerife solamente en la piscina o siempre en la misma playa, pues ellas pueden organizar tu tiempo dentro y fuera del hotel, y cuando vuelvas a Tenerife te volverán a sorprender con novedades del hotel, de los alrededores y de la isla. If you don't know what to do during your holiday in Tenerife, and you don't want to spend your entire holiday near the pool or on the beach, they can organize your time in and outside the hotel, and when you come back to Tenerife, they will sure have something new to surprise with, something else to do in the hotel, in the surroundings or on the island. Te pueden informar de, y reservar por supuesto, excursiones, golf, restaurantes, parques (acuáticos, de animales, etc.), espectáculos y mucho más... Cómo ir al Teide, cómo descubrir la isla, dónde ir de caminata, qué hacer y ver en los alrededores, etc. Si quieres sorprender a tu pareja con un ramo de flores u otro detalle, ellas te lo pueden organizar. Puedes comprar Strelitzias para llevar a la península, o a tu país, obtener el horario de las guaguas, saber más del tiempo, pedir un canguro, etc. They can give you information about, and book of course, excursions, golf, restaurants, parks (water parks, animal parks,...), shows, etc. How to go to the mount Teide, what's the best way to explore the island, where to go hiking, what's to see and to do in the surroundings, etc. they will help you with that! If you want to surprise your partner, give her/him flowers or any other detail, they can organise that for you. You can buy Strelitzias, and take them home with you, obtain the bus time table, get information about the weather, ask for a babysitter, etc.


Como son unas superwomen, también participan en eventos del hotel, las puedes ver bailando en la cena de gala por ejemplo. Preparan cartas y carteles con información sobre las actividades en el hotel y son grandes compañeras, mira lo que recibimos cuando cumplimos años por ejemplo...:
And as they are real superwomen, they also participate in the events of the hotel, you can see them dance in the galadinner for example. They prepare letters and information sheets for the guests about the activities in the hotel, and they are great colleagues, look what we receive if one of us celebrates his birthday for example:

Si todavía no las visitaste, vete a verlas durante tu próxima estancia, ya te darás cuenta, son unas máquinas! If you didn't visit them yet, go and meet them during your next stay, and you will see, they are really cool and good at their job!
