Reconocimiento Mejor Hotel de Tenerife

En el mes de Diciembre y gracias a las opiniones de nuestros huéspedes de TUI Nordic, hemos conseguido que el Hotel Mediterranean Palace se sitúe en segunda posición como mejor hotel para pasar su estancia en la "Región de Tenerife" y el Hotel Cleopatra Palace en Quinta posición. La votación incluye hoteles y apartamentos tanto de Tenerife, Palma, Hierro y Gomera.

In December and thanks to the opinions of our Tui Nordic guests the Mediterranean Palace succeeded to obtain the second place as best hotel of the region of Tenerife and the Cleopatra Palace the fifth place. The voting included hotels and appartments in Tenerife, La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera.

Los huéspedes han realizado la valoración después de haber estado con nosotros y en la encuesta han calificado aspectos como: el servicio del personal, la localización, el estándar de la habitación, la limpieza de la habitación y la impresión general del hotel.

After their stay with us the guests had the chance to vote and to give a mark for the following subjects: the service of the employees, the location, the room standard, the room cleaning and the general impression of the hotel.

En todas las calificaciones hemos conseguido una puntuación por encima del 4 sobre 5, y nos hemos quedado a tan solo 2 décimas del de primer puesto, quedando tanto el Hotel Mediterranean Palace como el Hotel Cleopatra Palace muy por arriba de la media regional.

In all rated areas we received a score of more then 4 out of 5 and we finished at only 2 tenths behind the winner. Both the Mediterranean Palace and the Cleopatra Palace finished far above the regional average.

Hotel Sir Anthony - Tenerife, galardonado awarded

Buenos días a todos,

El pasado jueves el Ayuntamiento de Arona, de manos de su Alcalde José Alberto Reverón y del Presidente del Patronato de Turismo Ángel David Herrera y en presencia del Consejero del Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, de la Consejera de Turismo del Gobierno de Canarias Rita martín, entregaron al Sr. Twose (Consegero Delegado), como representante de EXPO HOTELS & RESORTS un premio por nuestra decidida y acertada apuesta en la renovación del Hotel Sir Anthony.

Last Thursday the Mayor of the town council of Arona, Mr. José Alberto Reverón together with Mr. Ángel David Herrera, Tourist Board councillor and assisted by José Manuel Bermúdez, Councillor of the Council of Tenerife, and Rita Martín, Councillor of the Regional Ministry of Tourism of the Canarian Islands presented an award to Mr. Twose, managing director and representative of our group Expo Hotels & Resorts, for the following: our wise and determined investment in the renovation of the Hotel Sir Anthony.

Este galardón, tal y como el Sr. Twose expuso a los asistentes al acto, está dedicado a todas aquellas personas que han participado de la renovación, ya sea a nivel estructural como de concepto. Recordó que tras una magnífico trabajo del departamento de diseño y remodelación con Montse Garrigós y Leandro Royes a la cabeza, y un, no menos magnífico, trabajo de reconstrucción del equipo técnico de la cadena y de Mare Nostrum Resort, hay un esfuerzo diario de todo un equipo de personas que componen la Plantilla del Hotel Sir Anthony y que hacen que el nuevo edificio tenga su propio espíritu y personalidad. El espíritu del Hotel Sir Anthony es el que nos hace diferentes.

Mr. Twose explained to those present that this award is dedicated to all people who have participated in the both structural and conceptual renovation of the Sir Anthony. He reminded everybody of the fact that there’s a very important factor behind the great work of the design and remodel department with leaders Montse Garrigós and Leandro Royes and the equally great reconstruction work of the group’s and Mare Nostrum’s technical team: the daily effort of a whole team of people, made up of the entire staff of the Hotel Sir Anthony, giving the new building its own spirit and personality. The spirit of the Sir Anthony is what makes us different.

No sé si le conoces de tu estancia en nuestro hotel, pero hace un mes Miguel Cervera Domínguez del equipo de bares fue nombrado mejor empleado del Mare Nostrum Resort del año 2009 . Todavía no ha tenido la oportunidad de expresar su agradecimiento por haber ganado este premio pero aquí siguen sus palabras:

I don't know if you met him during your stay here in our hotel, but about a month ago Miguel Cervera Domínguez, from the bar team, received from the Mare Nostrum Resort the "Best Employee Award 2009". Till now he didn't have the oportunity to express his gratitude for this award but here a big "thank you" in his own words:

"Para mí, ha sido todo un orgullo que me lo otorgaran; pues ha sido un año en el que he aprendido mucho, y bajo mi punto de vista, de los mejores.

"I'm very proud to have won this award; during this year I've learned a lot, and I believe from the best.

He tenido el apoyo incondicional de dos personas que siempre han estado cuando más he necesitado su apoyo, cuando he tenido dudas. Dos personas que siempre me han ayudado cuando me he sentido perdido en el camino y me han mostrado la luz!!! Ya que en el momento del premio no fui capaz de articular palabra para agradecérselo a ellos directamente, que mejor que publicarlo aquí en el Blog del hotel.

I've received the unconditionnal support of two people who were always there when I needed their help. Two people who always helped me when I felt lost and who showed me the light!!! As I wasn't able to express my gratitute towards them during the prize award ceremony, I felt that publishing it on the Blog of the hotel was the best way to show them my appreciation.

Esta mañana parte del Equipo del Hotel Cleopatra Palace se levantó muy temprano para rodar un nuevo vídeo con mucho cariño dedicado a los huéspedes que disfruten de las Cenas de Gala. (Rodaje desde las 6:30 hasta las 9:00).

Circuito canario de Surf Sub 21 / Canarian Surf circuit Under 21

El campeonato fue aplazado y está ahora confirmado para este fin de semana, el 23 y 24 de enero. Lo organizan en La Derecha del Cartel, en Playa de las Américas. Los surfistas saben donde está! Los que no saben, un buen paseo desde el hotel (10 minutitos), por el paseo marítimo en Playa de las Américas, y ya verán dónde tiene lugar, por la cantidad de surfistas, la música, los espectadores, el buen ambiente,...

The competition finds place this weekend, on the 23rd and 24th of January, in "La Derecha del Cartel", in Playa de las Américas. Surfers know where it is! Who doesn't know the place, it's at short walk of the hotel (about 10 minutes), following the promenade in Playa de las Américas, and you will find it immediately, as you will see lots of surfers, hear the music, feel the good atmosphere!

Mientras que ya están aquí, igual pueden aprovecharlo para seguir unas clases de surf o para alquilar una tabla? En Playa de las Américas hay varias escuelas y tiendas de surf.

While you're there, you can take the opportunity to follow some surf lessons or to rent a surf board? In Playa de las Américas there are several surf schools and shops.

El Mare Nostrum Resort está cerca de los lugares de surf más importantes en el sur. Los más cerca quedan entre 5 y 15 minutos andando. O si quieren descubrir la ola en el norte, pueden alquilar un coche en el hotel!

The Mare Nostrum Resort is near the most important surf spots in the south. The closest ones are at walking distance (between 3 to 15 minutes walking). Or if you want to discover the waves in the north, you can rent a car in the hotel!

Por qué se toman uvas el día de Nochevieja al son de las campanadas de medianoche?


Todos los años la misma historia. Cuando se acercan las doce de la noche del 31 de diciembre, la familia al completo se agolpa alrededor de la televisión, expectante, nerviosa, armada con 12 uvas, y dispuesta, este año sí, a comérselas todas. Pero, ¿por qué se toman uvas el día de Nochevieja al son de las campanadas de medianoche? ¿Por qué 12? Toda tradición tiene una explicación... La más extendida asegura que el hecho de tomar uvas el día de Nochevieja se remonta a 1909, año en el que los agricultores españoles se encontraron con un excedente de cosecha considerable. Para darle salida decidieron propagar la leyenda de que comer este fruto daba buena suerte y, desde entonces, todo aquel que quiera entrar en el próximo año con buen pie debe cumplir con el ritual. Esta es una de las explicaciones...

En cuanto a la razón por la que se come una docena de uvas y no más o menos, no hay consenso. Unos dicen que simbolizan los meses del año y otros, más prosaicos, que es una por cada campanada, sin más. Eso sí, que nadie se olvide de pedir un deseo por cada una y, por favor, no confundáis los cuartos con las campanadas. Pero entre estos deseos no puede faltar este de ir al Mare Nostrum en 2010...

Why do we eat grapes on New Year's Eve, at midnight, on each bell strike?


Each year is the same history, the same image. When the clock strikes almost 12h00, on the night of the 31st of December, the entire Spanish family sits in front of the television, nervous, and armed with 12 grapes and ready to eat them all this year. But why do Spanish people eat grapes at each bell strike at midnight on New Year's Eve? And why 12? Each tradition has its explanation...

The most known one is the history that goes back to the year 1909. In that year Spanishvine growers had a considerable surplus of harvested grapes. To get rid of them, the vine growers decided to spread the legend that eating grapes leads to a year prosperity and from that moment on everybody who wants to start the New Year on a good footing, has to accomplish that ritual. That's one of the stories...

And why do we eat twelve and not one more or less... Some say 12 simbolizes the months of the year and others give a more mundane explication, and say that the 12 stands for each clock strike. And of course, nobody can forget to make a wish on each clock strike, so after the 12th strike everyone should have eaten all their 12 grapes, although this seldom happens, due to its difficulty. And one of those wishes should of course be to go to the Mare Nostrum Resort in 2010...

La Navidad al sol en Canarias



Debido a la situación de las Islas Canarias, aquí incluso en Navidad hace buen tiempo. Las denominadas "Islas Afortunadas" ofrecen una propuesta de Navidad a una buena temperatura bajo el sol.


Las Islas Canarias además cuentan con una interesante, divertida y diferente propuesta de Navidad. Según presumen los canarios, en Canarias se puede disfrutar tanto de la nieve como de los 20 grados centígrados en Navidad. Por ejemplo en Tenerife, no es extraño ver la cima del Teide nevada durante los meses de diciembre y enero. Y a menos de 2 horas en coche, en el sur de la isla, poder estar tomando el sol a entre 18 y 20 grados.

Canarias además se propone como el destino ideal para las compras de Navidad. Económicamente el archipiélago está considerado un puerto franco de impuestos por lo que infinidad de artículos de regalo pueden resultar más barato que en la Península o en el resto de Europa.

Las Islas Canarias en Navidad siguen teniendo el mismo carácter durante todo el año. La hospitalidad canaria sigue caracterizando a las islas también durante esta época del año. Es más, el espíritu de la Navidad cobra en Canarias un carácter especial que combina las tradiciones navideñas con alternativas propuestas como la posibilidad de celebrar las reuniones de Navidad en espacios abiertos al aire libre debido sobre todo a la agradable temperatura.

Sunny Christmas on the Canarian Islands


Due to the geographical situation of the Canarian Islands, there's always nice weather, even during Christmas. The so called "Fortunate Islands" offer a sunny Christmas with good temperatures.

On the Canary Islands the inhabitants can really say they have a interesting, different and funny Christmas to offer. People of the Canaries say that on their Islands they can sometimes enjoy both snow and a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius during Christmas. For example in Tenerife, it's not that strange to see the top of mount Teide full of snow during December and January. And at a distance of less then 2 hours by car, in the south of the Island, you can sunbathe in temperatures between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius.

The Canary Islands are considered as the ideal destination for Christmas shopping. Being a duty free zone, the Islands offer cheaper prices for lots of presents then the mainland or the rest of Europe

During Christmas the Canaries have the same character as during the rest of the year. The hospitaly of its inhabitants is also typical for the Islands during this time of the year. The Christmas spirit is really special on the Canaries as it combines the Christmas tradition with alternative ideas as the possibility of celebrating Christmas in open air because of the nice temperatures.

XIV TORNEO INTERNACIONAL BLUE BBVA DE FUTBOL 7

Tenerife espera "con orgullo e ilusión" a los doce equipos

Carmelo Zubiaur: "Volvemos a Arona y eso es un privilegio".

El XIV Torneo Internacional Blue BBVA de Fútbol 7 vive ya su cuenta atrás. Confirmado el cartel, elaborado el calendario y con la organización cerrando la presencia de ilustres invitados (como Florentino Pérez), el viernes pasado, el 18 de diciembre, se vivió la puesta en escena del evento con la presentación protocolaria en nuestro hotel Sir Anthony del Mare Nostrum Resort.

Carmelo Zubiaur, impulsor y promotor de la competición, y vicepresidente de la fundación el Larguero, estuvo acompañado por autoridades políticas de Tenerife, como el consejero de Deportes del Cabildo, Dámaso Arteaga, el concejal de Turismo del Ayuntamiento de Arona, Angel David Herrera y un representante de BBVA, Celestino Pérez (directivo BBVA).

Todos los discursos coincidieron en un hilo argumental: Tenerife espera "con orgullo e ilusión" la llegada de los doce equipos. Así lo enfatizó Arteaga en varias ocasiones, resaltando el valor promocional que implica para la isla acoger una prueba de este prestigio e impacto mediático.

"Volvemos a Arona y eso es un privilegio. Significa volver a casa, con la garantía que siempre hemos tenido a nivel de instalaciones de todo tipo", resaltó Zubiaur visiblemente satisfecho.

Con la única excepción del Manchester, el resto de participantes aterrizará en Tenerife el 26 en un vuelo chárter fletado para la ocasión. Será en la víspera al arranque de los encuentros.

"Reunimos a las mejoras canteras de Europa y el reto es de todos será destronar a un Barcelona que va a presentar un equipo tremendamente competitivo. Ya sabemos cómo está funcionando La Masía últimamente. El espectáculo está garantizado", anticipa un Zubiaur con expectativas renovadas pese al listón inmejorable que dejaron las ediciones anteriores.

José Ramón de la Morena realizará El Larguero desde Tenerife en los días de torneo, prestando especial interés a las evoluciones de los equipos y estrellas de la música como Los Sabandeños y la soprano Mariola Cantarero también prestarán su apoyo con la celebración de un concierto en la noche del primer día de partidos (la noche del 27 de diciembre). El concierto tiene lugar en el Auditorio del Palacio de Congresos Pirámide de Arona, que forma parte del Mare Nostrum Resort.

El Mare Nostrum Resort tiene el honor de recibir los VIP´s del torneo, además de importantes personalidades. Tenerife waits with "pride and illusion" for the 12 football teams

Carmelo Zubiaur: "We return to Arona and that's a real privilege".

The 14th International Tournament Blue BBVA of Football 7 is counting down. The program is confirmed, and with that the presence of some important guests (like Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid), and last Friday, the 18th of December, the entire event has been presented in a press conference in our Sir Anthony Hotel in the Mare Nostrum Resort.

There was Carmelo Zubiaur, promotor of the competition and vice president of the foundation El Larguero, together with some politicians of Tenerife, like the Sport Councillor of Tenerife, Dámaso Arteaga, the Tourist Board Councillor of the Arona Town Council, Angel David Herrera and a representative of the BBVA (a bank director), Celestino Pérez.

In all speeches there was one same message: Tenerife waits with "pride and illusion" for the arrival of the twelf teams. On various occasions, Arteaga highlighted the impact of the media and the promotional value of this prestiguous tournament for the island.

"We return to Arona, and that's a privilege. It means return home, with the guarantee of all kind of installations", explains a clearly happy Zubiaur.

With the exception of Manchester, all participants land in Tenerife on the 26th, the night before the event, with a special charter flight.

"We bring the best youth players of Europe together and the goal is to dethrone a Barcelona that will present an extremely competitive team. We already know how "La Masía" is functioning lately. Entertainment is guaranteed", states Zubiaur with renewed expectations even if the past editions were already of an excellent standard.

During the tournament José Ramón de la Morena (a Spanish journalist, director and presentator of a very important sport program on the Spanish radio, called "El Larguero" on channel "Cadena Ser") will be in Tenerife to broadcast his radio show "El Larguero" and will show special interest for the progress of the teams. Further on, music stars like Los Sabandeños (a famous musical group of Tenerife, plays Canarian folk/popular music) and the soprano Mariola Cantarero will perform on the first night of the event, the 27th of December in the "Pirámide de Arona", the Conference Center that forms part of the Mare Nostrum Resort.
